Core components of a useful tech pack

Make the measurement chart reproducible
Name every point of measure and show how it is taken. “Body length” can mean different things unless the start and end points are illustrated. Set tolerances by measurement and product risk rather than copying one generic number across the garment.

Use the BOM to control materials and trims
Each bill-of-materials line should identify component, location, composition or material, color, size, supplier reference if buyer-nominated, and approval status. For alternatives, state whether substitution needs buyer approval.
Specify artwork beyond the image file
- Finished width and height
- Placement from measurable garment points
- Color references and print order
- Decoration method and required hand feel
- Artwork version and file name
- Wash-test or durability requirement
Control revisions and approvals
Put a revision number and date on every issue. Keep one comment log showing request, response and status. Follow the clothing sample process to connect prototype, fit, PP and TOP reviews to controlled document versions. When a sample is approved, archive the approved tech pack, measurement chart, artwork and photographs together.
